For my first golf related post I would like to share my favorite putting drill! We call it "Roll the Rock"! All you are trying to do is roll a good stripe, so you need a ball with a line on it (like a range ball or draw a line on one of your golf balls). Line it up and see if you can make it roll a spiral!

This drill is good for two parts of golf. First, it requires good technique to roll a good spiral every time. Your putter path and face need to be square when you hit the ball. When you are rolling good stripes your ball is going to start online better and have a more consistent speed. Second, it gets your mind in a good place on the course when putting. If you treat a birdie putt as "just another practice" you are more relaxed and the possibility of sinking the putt is greater.
A good practice progression to go through with the "Roll the Rock" drill is to start out trying to roll 5 to10 good stripes with no target about 2 to 3 feet in distance. Then add a small target like a coin or even a coin with a small dot on it. Try to roll another 5 to 10 putts over the small target with a good roll about 2 to 3 feet in distance. The last step would be to practice rolling good stripes at a longer distances.
